Tim Hortons is one of the most iconically Canadian food chains in the country, and one of the things that helped propel it to stardom is the many fan favourite donuts.
However, since the store first started back in the mid-20th century, a whole lot has changed on Tim Hortons' donut menu. Donuts disappear and reappear and new ones are always getting added to the inventory.
When this happens, it can cause us Canadians to get a bit up-in-arms. Matter of fact, just this month, Tim Hortons brought back two iconic donuts from their past — the Walnut Crunch and the Cherry Stick.
So, to bring you back to a world of nostalgia, or rage, here are some of the best donuts that Tim Hortons needs to revive in 2023, as well as some that I think we all could do without.
To bring back
Dutchie
Please, pass this donut to the left-hand side...so I can take a bite!
Well, I would take a bite if it was available right now.
If you remember the Dutchie, you'll remember it was a lot like an apple fritter but speckled with raisins rather than bits of apple.
Apparently, the Dutchie was one of the first donuts that graced the shelves of Tim's, although it was eventually phased out in 2014, according to CTV News.
While it's returned occasionally, I want this classic to come back permanently.
Chocolate Eclair
This donut is another classic that you don't see a whole lot of anymore.
But what is it? Well, the Chocolate Eclair a long, chocolate-topped donut with a nice filling of the Tim Hortons whipped topping. It's not exactly the classic eclair you might think of, but a nice sweet treat nonetheless.
Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of information on when the eclair was exactly phased out, but I do know that it was before 2014, as Tim Hortons tweeted in that year that the donut was making a limited-time return.
I just think that the Chocolate Eclair should come back just because I want to feel a little more Francophone asking for an "eclair."

No Chubby Checker is needed for this twist, but you might need a time machine.
The Sugar Twist was a pretty simple Tim Hortons donut from back in the day. According to a Tim Hortons tweet, this bowtie-shaped donut goes as far back as the 1970s and has been gone since, at least, before 2014.
It's a classic donut, twisted into a bowtie shape and dusted with sugar. Simple and delicious.
It makes sense that such a flashy item would be from the '70s. Heck, it looks like a flashy 1970s bowtie!

Don't you just love the Sour Cream Glazed from Tim Hortons? Now imagine if it also came with chocolate...
And it's not a complete fantasy. There was once a time when Canada did have a Chocolate Sour Cream Glazed Donut available in stores.
According to Tim Hortons, this confection was big in the 1990s, which is a prime nostalgia time for so many of us. It seems to be a lot like the classic Sour Cream Glazed donut — maybe one of the best on their menu, I'll add — with that extra hint of rich chocolate.
And while it's unclear whether Tim Hortons has experimented with bringing this one back, it's definitely something I'd love to try again.
Get rid of
Maple Dip
Maple Dip at Tim Hortons. It sounds almost too Canadian and too good to be true. And that's because it is.
The Maple Dip donut is a donut that makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it. It sort of tastes like maple, but whatever it is, it doesn't compare at all to real maple syrup. It doesn't even compare to the table syrup that you get at a diner.
Plus, the yellow colour is a bit disconcerting. It really banks on being something that will be so Canadian it'll knock your socks off, but in reality, it's just a big, sugary letdown.
Give it the axe!
Double Chocolate
Again, too much of a good thing is very much a reality with this donut.
While a chocolate donut can already be a fun treat, adding some chocolate icing on top is what many might call "a hat on a hat." It's just too freakin' much!
Chocolate is already a big addition to any donut and those flavours are executed beautifully with the chocolate glazed. We don't need another level of chocolate.
Granted, I know some people identify as "chocoholics," but this just is a bit ridiculous.
So, let's just say, from now on, if you want "double chocolate" just get two donuts, not this monstrosity.
To the pit of discontinuation it goes!
Old Fashioned Plain
This donut really just baffles me.
The Old Fashioned Plain really lives up to its name in the worst way possible. It's old-fashioned and it's plain as hell.
Eating this donut makes you feel like it's 1903 and you're hooting and hollering because you just saw the first-ever "aeroplane."
It tastes like something you give to someone while they're convalescing on a chaise lounge in 19th-century Victorian England.
The Old Fashioned Plain donut is the type of donut that only my grandma and my dog get excited about.
Save yourself the money, go home and just eat a slice of bread — they taste the exact same as far as I'm concerned.
So, let's stop acting like it's 1924 and get rid of the Old Fashioned Plain!
Of course, Tim Hortons probably won't listen to a lowly content writer, but I can sure hope that this can start a movement to bring back some iconic donuts and cast some others to the dustbin of history.
A Tim Hortons fan can only dream.
