Police were notified about a person wearing a "horror movie" mask and possibly carrying a machete in the area of Finch Avenue West and Bathurst on Monday.

In a news release on Wednesday, police gave more details on what may have happened before the stabbing.

In the release, police say it's alleged that the victim was standing in a parking lot with friends when the suspect started running toward him.

The victim then tried to run away but fell to the ground and that's when the suspect stabbed the victim "several times."

The suspect then ran off in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Northview Heights Secondary School was placed on lockdown following the incident.

On Wednesday, police confirmed they arrested and charged a 17-year-old suspect, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The suspect was charged with aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and disguise with intent.

He was scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Wednesday.
