Ahoy there! This Ontario small town has some secrets that lie beneath its shimmering waters. You can actually discover historic shipwrecks scattered around the shores and it's like something out of a pirate film.
The harbour town is located just under four hours from Toronto and is known for its pristine blue waters, stunning parks and natural wonders.
It's a magical spot to explore during the summer, when the charming streets come alive with ice cream shops and restaurants and the beaches fill with sunshine.
Here's what to know about the "Shipwreck Capital of Canada."
Tobermory, Ontario is home to over 20 shipwrecks, some of which date back to the mid-1800s. The area has been dubbed the "Shipwreck Capital of Canada" due to the many sunken vessels resting beneath the waves, according to Parks Canada.
You can see the shipwrecks by diving, snorkelling or taking boat tour from Tobermory's harbour.
Fathom Five National Marine Park is the place to go if you want to experience these underwater ruins. It offers "some of the best freshwater diving opportunities in Canada," according to the Visit Tobermory website.
If you're planning on diving or snorkelling around the shipwrecks, be sure to stay in the designated dive sites.
You can even take glass-bottom boat cruises from Tobermory, which offer incredible views of the wrecks. There are a number of cruise companies to choose from, including Bruce Anchor Cruises and Blue Heron Cruises.
