When it comes to fast food joints, many Canadians can relate to looking across the border at our American counterparts and being green with envy. While we have Tim Hortons to boast about, American food chains like Shake Shack, Sonic, and The Cheesecake Factory have people willing to make the trip to the States.
When it comes to cross-border envy Vancouvervites have some strong opinions, being right next to the state of Washington. It doesn't take long to get to the U.S., and some locals on Reddit were sharing their favourite food spots to go to up while there.
If you're a Canadian looking for some inspo for your next foodie trip to the U.S., take notes.
Shake Shake
Okay so Toronto just got a Shake Shake, but people elsewhere in Canada are still dreaming of this place. You can tell Canadians have been anxiously awaiting this because the lines for the Toronto one were no joke. Whether it's waiting in line for hours or driving to a different country, the burger is worth it apparently.

The Cheesecake Factory
A few people on Reddit reminisced about their trips to The Cheesecake Factory. With a menu almost as long as the trip there, there's a little something for everything at this famous American chain. There is a sole Ontario location for this spot as well, but the rest of the country is awaiting the plethora of choices that comes with a meal here.
Trader Joes
Although not a fast food spot technically, one Redditor user said they "just want Trader Joes" and it earned them 95 upvotes. The popular grocery store chain is something Canadians see all over social media, but can't get within our own borders, unfortunately.
Sonic Drive-In
Sonic was another one shouted out on the Reddit thread, with its fun menu and cool branding. Grab a slushie from here on your next cross-border adventure.
Canada might do McDonald's better, at least
Amongst all of the U.S. fast food chain hype, one Reddit user from Washington argued that Canadian McDonald's is actually way better than America's. "I still dream about the Canadian snack wraps once a month," they wrote.
It turns out that other people agree, saying that the McChicken is a win for Canada. At least we got something!
