The weather forecast in BC is looking stormy, with a bomb cyclone set to hit this week. The storm is forecasted to bring high winds and wet weather to the region.
The Weather Network said that the storm is "rapidly intensifying" and "will threaten some hazardous conditions across B.C. through the first half of the week."
Heavy precipitation and wind gusts are expected to hit on Tuesday and go into Wednesday, leading to a chance of power outages.
The intense weather is expected to meet the criteria for a bomb cyclone, which TWN said is "different from other storms because the dynamics within a rapidly intensifying storm can create ripping winds and extreme precipitation rates."
On Tuesday light showers should start, and as the system approaches heavy alpine snow is expected. This is good news for ski resorts, which should get "copious amounts of snow" this week. TWN said that some areas could even get close to 100 cm from the weather event.
People should brace for the high winds though, which should be intensifying into Tuesday night. "Gusts will generally peak around 90-100 km/h. Folks across the Lower Mainland can expect winds to peak around 50-70 km/h, with the strongest gusts likely along the western beaches," TWN added.
These strong gusts could last a while, going into Wednesday and peaking early in the morning, continuing throughout the day. TWN warned of widespread power outages thanks to the windy weather.
