B.C. is home to some of the most spectacular hidden gems in the country, with hidden waterfalls, rainforest hikes, charming small towns, mountain views, and secluded beaches on the shores on tiny islands.
This one spot was just named among the top in Canada, thanks to it's clear turquoise water, velvety sand and tropical-like temperatures.
Hornby Island was praised by Narcity readers, in response to a recent post on Narcity Canada's Facebook page asking people for their favourite Canadian hidden gems that tourists might not know about.
Hornby Island is full of stunning coastal scenery and lush forests, with three provincial parks and 70 hiking and biking trails.
Little Tribune Bay Beach is the most famous part of the island though. It has bright water alongside white sand that makes it feel like little slice of paradise.
It's been nicknamed "Little Hawaii" and has shallow waters that the BC Parks website says "meet near tropical temperatures during the summer.'
The island also has a vibrant community that you can explore in between beach visits, with restaurants, shops and a farmers market in the summer.
To reach Hornby Island you can take B.C. ferries from Vancouver, but it's a bit of a journey. It involved three ferry rides — first to Nanaimo, then from Buckley Bay to Denman Island and finally one to Hornby Island.
The journey is well-worth it to each this destination though, made even better by being so far from the bustle of city life.
