There is a new class action lawsuit in Canada that you could potentially get a settlement from.
It's related to the recall of cantaloupes that have been identified as the likely cause of the salmonella outbreak that's happening across the country.
It was just announced that Slater Vecchio LLP has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of all people in Canada — excluding residents of Quebec — who purchased or got sick from consuming cantaloupes that may have been contaminated with salmonella.
The law firm has also started a separate class action in Quebec in response to the salmonella outbreak.
Food recalls were issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on November 1, November 14 and November 17 for Malichita brand cantaloupes sold between October 11 and November 14, 2023
Then, on November 24, the food recall warning was updated to include Rudy brand cantaloupes sold from October 10 to November 24, 2023.
The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating an outbreak of salmonella infections related to cantaloupes in eight provinces: B.C., Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, P.E.I., New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Consumption of Malichita and Rudy brand cantaloupes has been identified as the likely source of the outbreak in Canada.
As of December 22, 2023, there have been 164 laboratory-confirmed cases of salmonella illness linked to the outbreak, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.
That includes 18 cases in B.C., four in Alberta, 21 in Ontario, 111 in Quebec, two in P.E.I., two in New Brunswick, four in Nova Scotia and two in Newfoundland and Labrador.
People became sick in 2023 between mid-October and early December with 61 hospitalizations and seven deaths.
Now that the class action lawsuit has been filed, Slater Vecchio LLP is looking to identify people who purchased a recalled cantaloupe or related products sold after October 10, 2023.

Also, you have to answer these questions about the cantaloupe recall and salmonella outbreak:
- Did you eat cantaloupes or similar fruit and get sick?
- Did you miss any employment-related income while you were sick?
- Did you purchase cantaloupes or similar fruit?
Each person who meets the criteria of the class group for the cantaloupe salmonella class action is considered a "class member."
If you're a class member, you would be part of any settlement reached if this class action lawsuit is certified by the court and then settled.
No information has been released yet about what settlement the class action is seeking, including whether it will be monetary compensation or not.
