By signing up for Canoo, a free app available for new Canadian citizens, you can get access to free entries to hundreds of cultural sites across the country.
This includes all national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada, as listed on the Government of Canada website. You can find a full list of the parks here as you plan your visit.
While the admission is free, the Government website does note that other costs may still apply like reservation and camping fees so make sure you do your research before planning your trip.
If you enjoy going to museums, art galleries and science centres then the great news is that those sites are also free for newcomers.
That includes places like the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum and the Vancouver Art Gallery, among many others.
Admission to cultural events is also part of the Canoo app, including shows by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and free skating at The Bentway in Toronto.
With it being the winter season, Canoo also has a 25% discount for its members at certain ski resorts like Horseshoe Resort near Toronto.

Discount on a VIA Rail cross-country train ride
If you'd like to explore Canada now that you're a citizen, what better way to do it than to take a cross-country train ride?
VIA Rail offers Canoo members a one-time 50% discount for a one-way or round-trip ticket on board any VIA Rail train in Canada. That means you can take a ride across the country and see the different provinces along the way.
The VIA Rail website says the discount is offered to Canoo members and up to four of their dependent minor children, who are 17 years old or younger. The family must travel in the same class and on the same train.
Shopping deals
Newcomers who get the Canoo app also get access to various shopping deals.
For example, the website shows that Canoo currently has a partnership with Mark's and anyone with the app can save $20 when they spend $100 or more at the store.
Canoo is also offering its users discounts at stores like London Drugs and some gyms in Canada, including the Orange Theory in Peterborough. There are also deals at various Ride Cycle Clubs across the country, including at locations in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

Car deals for newcomers
It looks like newcomers can even get deals when purchasing a new vehicle.
For example, GMC has a "Welcome to Canada Program" that offers Canadian newcomers a $1,000 bonus to put toward "purchasing, financing or leasing an eligible GMC vehicle." The offer is valid until January 2, 2025, and you'll be required to show a valid Canadian driver's licence.
New Canadian permanent residents and temporary workers with valid work permits can also apply for the bonus code online.
