Ontario has so many amazing travel experiences and one was just named among the top in the world. National Geographic's Best in the World rankings for 2024 have highlighted an Ontario landmark as home to one of the 20 "coolest travel adventures" to take this year.
The list features top experiences around the globe, from diving with sharks in Australia to hiking a volcano in Panama.
Only two Canadian adventures made the cut, one of which is located right here in Ontario.
Seeing the eclipse at Niagara Falls came in at number 11 on the list, and here's what to know.
Why you should care: According to National Geographic, Niagara Falls is situated right in the area where the total solar eclipse will be visible. On April 8, 2024, the eclipse is set to cross North America and won't appear in the region again until 2044.
You can watch the sky grow dark over the powerful cascade as the moon moves between the Earth and sun. According to a press release from Niagara Falls Tourism, the eclipse will begin at 2:04 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring at 3:20 p.m. and ending at 4:32p.m. The entire event will last for about 2 and a half hours, with the total solar eclipse lasting around 3 and a half minutes.
The rainbow that appears above the falls on sunny days will even turn pink during this phenomenon.
The Niagara River Parkway, Table Rock Centre, Skylon Tower and Niagara SkyWheel are among Niagara Falls Tourism's suggested places to see the eclipse.
What they're saying: "[...] We are looking forward to welcoming guests to one of the best locations in the world to view the eclipse," Janice Thomson, President and CEO of Niagara Falls Tourism said in a press release.
"The eclipse will be one of those rare and special moments where you will be able to witness one wonder, right above another. We expect it to be a wonderful event, one that will make lasting memories for all that visit."
ICYMI: National Geographic featured one other Canadian destination in its "top travel experiences" roundup. Sleeping on the water at Tofino Wilderness Resort in B.C earned a spot at number 20 on the list.
