McDonald's Canada has 4 new deliciously chaotic items but they won't be around long

McDonald's Canada has just launched their new Remix Menu and it has four wild items that are truly unlike anything the company has ever put out before.

The new additions feature customers' twists on classic menu items, meaning you may have seen these as "TikTok hacks" online already, except now, they are available on the menu.

Narcity was given the opportunity to try the Chicken Cheeseburger, Surf ‘N Turf Burger, Sweet Chili Junior Chicken and the Apple Pie McFlurry ahead of their launch on April 2, and it was truly a wild ride.

Here's what I thought of all of the items, and while there's one I'm a little iffy about, the other three absolutely hit it out of the park and I can't wait to try them again.

Chicken Cheeseburger

"Delicious worlds are colliding with a combo of two classics featuring a crispy chicken patty made with Canadian-raised seasoned chicken AND a juicy 100% Canadian beef patty, all topped with a slice of melty processed cheddar cheese, a tangy pickle, onions, ketchup and mustard on a toasty bun," says McDonald's of this menu item.

I love a McDonald's cheeseburger, but that sandwich by itself can feel more like a snack than a meal. The addition of the chicken makes it super filling, and if I was hungry, this is what I'd want to order if I wanted something different than my go-to item, which is a Big Mac with extra Mac sauce.

The chicken and the beef together are more delicious than I anticipated and they balance each other nicely rather than one item overwhelming the other.

While I 100% would eat this sober, this also feels like the ideal thing to order after a night of drinking when you want a cheeseburger and chicken and cannot make up your mind on how to deal with the situation.

This one's a winner, and I will definitely be stopping at my local McDonald's after my next night out at the bar.

Sweet Chili Junior Chicken

"Your tastebuds will be singing a whole new tune with this sandwich," says McDonald's. "Made with Canadian-raised crispy seasoned chicken topped with crunchy shredded lettuce, tangy sweet chili Thai sauce and mayo-style sauce, all on a toasty bun."

The Sweet Chili Junior Chicken is super tasty and doesn't taste like anything else I've ever tried at McDonald's, which is fun.

It's sweet, tangy and has just the tiniest bit of spice to warm up your mouth. It's nowhere near as spicy as the Hot Honey McCrispy that was all over everyone's FYP pages a while back (I'm good with hot foods, and for me, it was pretty spicy), so I think even those who prefer something a bit milder won't find it to be overwhelming.

Unlike the other two sandwiches, this one is likely just enough food to make you feel full without needing to lie down afterwards and I'm obsessed with it.

This sandwich was my favourite out of all the new savoury items and it deserves a permanent spot on the menu. Your move, McDonald's.

Apple Pie McFlurry

"Some desserts were just made for each other, but what gets this remix really singing is our cool soft vanilla serve swirled together with tasty caramel sauce and pieces of our Baked Apple Pie," says McDonald's.

Y'all, this is the treat we all need for the summer of 2024 — I'm not a huge fan of sweets, but the Apple Pie McFlurry is just so good that you simply cannot ignore it.

Apple pie and ice cream paired together is obviously a win in terms of flavour, but the part I really liked about it was actually the different textures you get.

In some bites, you get the ooey-gooey bits of apple, while in others you get some of the harder pieces of pastry and occasionally you get a mix of both.

Simply delightful, 10/10, no notes!

Surf ‘N Turf Burger

"Made with two juicy 100% Canadian beef patties AND a crispy, flaky Filet-O-Fish® patty made with 100% Alaska Pollock, it’s also topped with two slices of melty processed cheddar cheese, tangy pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard on a toasty bun," says McDonald's.

I'll admit, I was skeptical of this item as I'm not the person who usually orders a Filet-O-Fish, and while I can't say this is my favourite McDonald's menu item, I can totally see how this is someone's dream sandwich.

First of all, it is a hefty sandwich — two beef patties are already a pretty good serving of food and the addition of the fish makes it truly a filling sandwich.

I personally think the taste of the fish comes through more strongly than that of the beef, so if you're a lover of the Filet-O-Fish, this will definitely be an interesting item to give a try.

I'm happy I tried it, but I definitely prefer the other three options from the new items.

"The Remix Menu is available for a limited time only at participating restaurants, through the McDonald’s app, at the Drive-Thru, or via McDelivery," notes the company, meaning that much like the McRib, the "adult Happy Meal" and the Hot Honey McCrispy, you're going to want to try it before it disappears on April 29.

The new menu items also come with a remixed song from Lil Yachty.

"Lil Yachty, a previous McDonald’s crew member now known for his chart-topping songs, has partnered with McDonald’s Canada on his very own remix of the original 1989 McDonald’s Menu Song," says the company.

“We hope these new takes on the McDonald’s Menu Song, brought to life by Lil Yatchyand Mike Clay, will evoke the excitement Canadians felt for McDonald’s the first time they heard the song, and look forward to introducing it to a new generation of fans," said Alyssa Buetikofer, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s Canada. "It’s also a celebration of the love Canadians have for our iconic menu items."

So — which item are you going to try out first, the Chicken Cheeseburger, the Surf ‘N Turf Burger, the Sweet Chili Junior Chicken or the Apple Pie McFlurry
