These celebs will be in Vancouver in April and these are the films and shows they're working on



Hollywood loves Vancouver and that's made clear with the amount of films currently in or starting production soon in B.C.

From movies to series returning to shoot another season, like The Last Of Us, many exciting projects are underway on the West Coast.

A new Apple TV series Firebug starring Taron Egerton is in the works as is a Suits spinoff.

There are also several Blockbuster films with star-studded casts in production.

Here are 12 films and shows that are filming in Vancouver this month.

Firebug Season 1


Actress Jurnee Smollett will star alongside Rocketman actor Taron Egerton in the new Apple TV+ series Firebug.

Deadline reports the show is "loosely inspired by events surrounding notorious California arsonist John Leonard Orr." It will follow a "troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator (Egerton) as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists."

The outlet adds that Smollett will play Michelle who is a "rising-star detective."

Final Destination 6: Bloodlines


The Final Destination franchise is back for its sixth instalment.

Few details about the film are known about the film at this point, including who is part of the cast.

Final Destination: Bloodlines will be about a group of first responders who escape "death's grasp" and then start to be killed by increasingly unlikely and killer mishaps, according to IMDb.

The film's director Zach Lipovsky confirmed the film will be released in IMAX in 2025.

Suits L.A.


One Tree Hill actor Bryan Greenberg is suiting up for his next role.

Greenberg is joining Arrow actor Stephen Amell in Suits: L.A., which is said to be an extension of the Suits universe and not a reboot of the original series.

The NBC spinoff will follow a new group of lawyers led by Ted Black (played by Amell), a former New York prosecutor who built an L.A. law firm specializing in criminal and entertainment law.

Deadline reports Greenberg will play Rick Dodsen, who is Black's protege.

The cast also includes Troy Winbush, Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt and Alice Lee.

Several people who worked on the original Suits show, which aired from 2011-2019, will be working on this new spinoff, including Aaron Korsh, the creator and writer of the series.

No premiere date for Suits: LA has been announced.

The Last Of Us Season 2


Production on Season 2 of the HBO series The Last Of Us is underway in B.C.

Fans have spotted several filming locations and they haven't hesitated about sharing those spots.

So far the series has been spotted filming in North Vancouver, Langley, Mission and Kamloops.

In March, Gabriel Luna, who plays Joel's brother Tommy in the show, revealed that part of the upcoming season would also be filmed in Alberta, which is where Season 1 was filmed.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are set to reprise their roles as Joel and Ellie in Season 2.

New cast members include Danny Ramirez, Ariela Barer, Isabela Merced, Catherine O'Hara, Kaitlyn Dever, Young Mazino, Tati Gabrielle and Spencer Lord.

Filming of Season 2 is scheduled to wrap up in August.

Playdate


Alan Ritchson is starring alongside Kevin James in the action-comedy film Playdate.

According to Deadline, James will play Brian, a man who becomes a stay-at-home dad after getting fired from his job. He gets a playdate invitation from fellow stay-at-home dad Jeff (played by Ritchson). The two dads and their sons end up spending the day "on the run, facing a deadly conspiracy."

In the interview with Deadline, the movie's director Luke Greenfield said the two actors have great chemistry.

"Playdate has everything audiences crave- a witty script, a passionate and brilliant director, and our talented cast. Finding the right actor for the right role is crucial to the DNA of any project and in this case, Alan and Kevin are so creatively perfect – individually and together – that they will bring life to the characters in fun ways," Greenstein said.

Fans have spotted Ritchson and James shooting scenes in Maple Ridge.

Happy Face Season 1


Dennis Quaid is in Vancouver working on a new Paramount+ series Happy Face.

The eight-episode first season will tell the story of Melissa Jesperson-Moore (played by Annaleigh Ashford), who at age 15 discovered her father Keith Hunter Jesperson (played by Quaid), was a serial murderer known as the Happy Face killer, according to an IMDb description.

The series is inspired by a podcast of the same name, the real-life story of Melissa Moore, and Moore's autobiography Shattered Silence, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

The cast also includes James Wolk as Ben, Khiyla Aynne as Hazel and David Harewood as Dr. Grey.

Happy Face will premiere on Paramount+ in 2025, Variety reports.

Tron: Ares


Jared Leto, Gillian Anderson, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Jodie Turner-Smith are all in Vancouver shooting the third film in the Tron sci-fi franchise called Tron: Ares.

According to Deadline, the film will follow Ares (played by Leto) who is a fictional character that crosses over from the world of video games to planet Earth.

Leto and several other cast members were spotted around downtown Vancouver filming various scenes for the movie in March. Leto was seen walking out of the Bentall 5 building, located at 550 Burrard Street, in his red suit. By the looks of it, Bentall 5 will serve as the ENCOM headquarters in the Disney movie.

Production on Tron: Ares is scheduled to wrap up in May.

Murder in a Small Town Season 1

A new Fox series is in the works in British Columbia.

Murder in a Small Town follows detective Karl Alberg (played by Rossif Sutherland) who has to deal with a surprising string of murders in the typically quiet Pacific Northwest Coast town he just moved to.

The show also stars Kristin Kreuk who plays Cassandra, a local librarian who becomes Alberg's romantic interest, according to Variety.

The cast includes Mya Lowe as Corporal Edwina Yen and Aaron Douglas as Sergeant Sid Sokolowski.

The show is based on the Karl Alberg novel series by L.R. Wright.

It's slated to premiere sometime in 2024-2025.

Virgin River Season 6


The cast of Virgin River is back in Vancouver working on Season 6 of the Netflix show.

In late February, the Virgin River team confirmed they were back in Canada with a photo of Alexandra Breckenridge (who plays Mel Monroe (and Martin Henderson (who plays Jack Sheridan) back on set.

"It's official! Virgin River season 6 is back in production!" the post reads.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith shared that Season 6 will take place a few months after Season 5's Christmas episodes.

Along with Breckenridge and Henderson, the show stars Zibby Allen, Tim Matheson, Colin Lawrence, Annette O'Toole and Ben Hollingsworth.

Seasons 1 to 5, which were also filmed in B.C., are available on Netflix.

The Monkey


Theo James is starring in the horror film The Monkey, which is based on a short story by Stephen King, according to Deadline.

The outlet says the film will follow twin brothers Hal and Bill who find their dad's old monkey toy in the attic. Following that discovery, a series of "gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them." Deadline says the brothers toss away the toy and grow apart. They're later reunited after "mysterious deaths" start happening again.

The cast also includes Laura Mennell, Sarah Levy, Zia Newton and Kingston Chan.

Invasion Season 3


In early February, Apple TV+ announced it was renewing the sci-fi drama Invasion for a third season and it looks like production on it started shortly after.

"This new season will continue to build on the scale, stakes and propulsion of the ‘Invasion,’ while keeping our characters front and center, bringing them together in ways that will hopefully surprise and most importantly move our audience, who have been so incredibly supportive and inspiring since day one," creator and executive producer Simon Kinberg said in a press release.

Invasion follows an alien invasion through various perspectives around the world.

The series stars Golshifteh Farahani, Shioli Kutsuna, Shamier Anderson, India Brown and Billy Barratt.

Family Law Season 4


The stars of the Canadian legal drama Family Law are back on Canada's West Coast filming Season 4.

The show follows a group of "flawed family members" who work together at their father's law firm in downtown Vancouver.

It stars Victor Garber, Jewel Staite, Zach Smadu, Lauren Holly and Genelle Williams.
