Parts of Ontario could see up to 30 cm of snow as a 'rude' reminder of winter takes over

It may be April but the weather in Ontario seems to be unaware that we're supposed to gearing up for spring season.

Ontario will see rain, snow and gusty winds this week and it could make for dangerous travel conditions.

Here's what The Weather Network and Environment Canada are saying about the upcoming storm.

"This week’s forecast across Ontario and Quebec is a rude reminder that winter is still in charge across Canada even as we creep deeper into spring," says The Weather Network.

From Tuesday into Wednesday, southwestern Ontario will see widespread rain that will be heavy at times with totals ranging from 15 to 30 millimetres. As it gets colder over later on Tuesday, the rain will switch to wet snow with strong winds blowing off Lake Ontario.

"The combination of gusty winds and heavy snow across inland areas will lead to reduced visibility and potential whiteout conditions at time," warns TWN. "Travel will be extremely difficult at times Tuesday night."

For Wednesday, there will be heavy, wet snow that'll make the GTA morning commute messy.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of southern and northeastern Ontario on Wednesday warning of 5 to 15 centimetres of snow for the area and up to 30 centimetres for eastern Ontario.

As for Thursday, there's still a threat for "heavy snow" across eastern Ontario, so be mindful when driving.

"Beyond the system, expect blustery and chilly conditions for a couple days as the system slowly departs the region, then a warming trend into next weekend with temperatures climbing well above seasonal," says TWN of the end of the week.
