This Ottawa brewery has stock market-themed nights and drinks drop as low as $5

Looking for cheap drinks and a unique Thursday night out with friends? Consider reserving a table at Beyond the Pale Brewing Company to try out Ottawa's one and only beer stock market, where the prices of drinks rise and fall based on demand.

Trading stocks followed by drinks out on the town is a tradition as old as the stock market itself. But imagine if, instead of investing in the actual market, you were investing in a fun night out while getting the same rush as a day trader on Wall Street.

Stock market-themed bars are becoming all the rage and are popping up all over Ontario, like Toronto's CKTL & Co and Mississauga's Sauga Bar X-Change. So, it should be no surprise that a local Ottawa brewery has decided to invest in this business-savvy trend by bringing it to the nation's capital.

Located in LeBreton Flats and only a short walk from Bayview Station, Beyond the Pale Brewing Company hosts its increasingly popular Insider Trading night every Thursday from 5 p.m. until closing time at 11 p.m.

Like the actual stock exchange, Beyond the Pale's Food & Drink Exchange displays all available trades. However, instead of the ticker board being displayed over a trading floor, it's projected above the bar.

Upon arrival, you'll receive a small sheet of paper with a list of delectable drinks as well as a correlating ticker symbol for each freshly brewed beverage. You'll have to pay close attention to the ticker board throughout the evening as the price of drinks will rise and plummet based on the demand from you and your fellow patrons.

The variety of in-house-brewed drinks on the market includes IPAs, pilsners, ales, ciders, stouts, shots and more. Prices can start as low as $5 and cap out at $8, but be aware that the prices featured on the ticker board don't include tax.

A five-minute timer at the top of the ticker board counts down to when prices will readjust based on which drinks are the most and least in demand.

While it may be devastating when the actual stock exchange crashes, a "crash" in Beyond the Pale's exchange means all drinks take a nosedive to $5, while shots get as cheap as $4.

If you grow an appetite from all the hustle and bustle of the market, appetizers and entrées are available on a non-fluctuating menu. This scrumptious selection features delicious smokehouse barbeque-style dishes like a 12-hour-smoked chopped brisket sandwich, handmade jerk chicken egg rolls, soft and crispy cauliflower wings and other deliciously appetizing meals.

Beyond the Pale has been brewing beers for local brewski connoisseurs and fanatics alike since opening its doors in 2012. In addition to organizing Insider Trading nights on Thursday evenings, they also host a variety of events, such as free-to-play trivia, bingo and even a "Sing a Sea Shanty" night.
