Ontario's summer weather forecast is out and the upcoming season is looking pretty extreme

The summer season is almost upon us and Ontario's weather is looking quite extreme for the next few months.

"A very hot and humid summer is expected with a heightened risk for extended heat waves," says The Weather Network of Ontario's 2024 summer forecast, including the GTA and Ottawa.

Some might like those conditions, but they do have consequences for the province.

"This will bring a heightened risk for extended heat waves, especially across southwestern Ontario, including Windsor and London," says the weather agency. "We will see periods of cooler weather during June, but the heat will build through July and August and linger into September."

Ontario's spring weather has been decidedly wet, which bodes well for gardens and farms in the short term.

"However, as we get deeper into the summer season, extended periods of dry weather are expected, especially across northern Ontario, with a high fire danger and a risk for poor air quality from smog and smoke," says TWN.

In addition to that, the heat will create conditions favourable to fuel "powerful storms" and even strong to severe ones.

For the rest of the country, the weather is looking pretty ideal.

"According to The Weather Network’s summer forecast for the months of June, July, and August, most of Canada will see warmer-than-normal temperatures, fewer rainy days than the typical summer, and more sunshine than normal during the upcoming season," they say.

Always remember to wear sunscreen, and take care when poor air quality hits!
