Fancy a trip to the Amazon? You don't have to hop on a plane in order to get a taste of this destination. Ontario is home to the "Canadian Amazon" and it's a road trip away from Toronto.
Located just over 2 hours from the city, this spot is often compared to the Amazon due to the lush vegetation that grows along the riverbanks.
You can paddle your way through rainforest-like scenery in a kayak for a totally unique summer adventure. There are also some new ways to explore the river this year, and here's what to know about the surreal experience.
Long Point Eco-Adventures in Turkey Point is home to a variety of activities and experiences. The venue offers kayak tours along the jungle-like Big Creek, which is known as the "Canadian Amazon."
You'll be whisked away to a rainforest as you paddle past "towering Sycamore and Black Walnut trees covered with wild grape and Virginia creeper vines."
This summer, Long Point Eco-Adventures is offering a new, intermediate paddle, which allows you to visit the "unexplored, quieter side of Big Creek."
You can also book an enchanting sunset kayak complete with fiery skies and stars. The 3-hour tour takes you along the creek and ends in a marsh where you can view the dazzling constellations under an open sky. You'll likely see some beavers as you drift along the water.
The sunset experience will begin in July and will run every Friday and alternating Saturdays. It will soon be available to book online.
