This small town in Alberta ranked among the best places to spot the Northern Lights in Canada

Seeing the Northern Lights illuminate the sky is a bucket list moment for many, and there are lots of places in Canada to make it happen. If you want to see them at their best and brightest though, you have to know where to go.

This small town in Alberta is one of those spots, recently ranked as one of the best places to see the northern lights shine in Canada.

Betway released the ranking, analyzing Canadian locations that are known for frequent Northern Lights sightings based on things like sightings, cloud cover, visibility and how close they are to the North Pole.

Churchill in Manitoba took the spot, thanks to its frequent sightings and clear dark skies. Whitehorse came in at second place, and finally, Westlock in Alberta came in third.

The Town of Weslock is about an hour's drive outside of Edmonton, so you're away from the light pollution of the bigger city. The small town had 25,857 reported sightings and a cloud cover score of 47.1%.

If you're an Albertan you're in luck because it wasn't the only town to make the ranking.

Vegreville, Drayton Valley, Lloydminster, and Spruce Grove also made the list. All of the Alberta spots to make it are relatively close to Edmonton, so if you live in the city keep your eye on the aurora forecast and take your pick of small towns to road trip to!
