Millennials who grew up with Disney and Pixar have lost a beloved actor and a beloved voice.
Ed Asner, the voice actor of prickly patriarch in Up passed away at 91 on Sunday, August 29, according to a statement posted to his Twitter account.
"We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully," a family member of Asner's wrote and published on Sunday afternoon. "Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head-Goodnight dad. We love you."
Asner is best-known among older audiences for his appearances as Lou Grant on the iconic TV shows The Mary Tyler Moore Show and his own show Lou Grant.
However, Asner became legendary among a whole new generation when he provided the gruff and affable voice to Carl Fredericksen, a grumpy old man who floats his way to adventure and new-found happiness in the classic Disney-Pixar film.
