The LifeLabs class action has officially been settled and millions of Canadians are eligible to get payments.

This class action alleged that LifeLabs was negligent in its protection of a database of customer personal health information that was accessed during the cyberattack.
LifeLabs denied all of the allegations made in the class action lawsuit.
Approximately 8.6 million people in Canada are part of this class because their personal information — including provincial health card numbers — was stolen.
That also includes just over 130,000 people whose confidential test requisitions or test results were stolen during the data breach.
On October 25, 2023, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice approved the negotiated settlement for this class action.
Now, as of December 2023, people in Canada can submit a claim to get a payment from the settlement.
If you were a LifeLabs customer on or before December 17, 2019, and were living in Canada as of October 25, 2023, you could get money from a LifeLabs class action settlement.
What is the LifeLabs class action lawsuit settlement?
LifeLabs has agreed to make a payment to eligible class members who submit a valid claim form within the 120-day claim period, which started in December 2023.
LifeLabs will pay a guaranteed amount of $4.9 million.
Up to an additional $4.9 million could also be paid out to Canadians depending on the number of claims made.
How do I submit a claim in the LifeLabs class action?
If you're a member of the class and do not submit a claim form, you won't receive any money from the settlement.
So, to get a payment, you need to submit a completed and signed claim form during the claim period which can be done online or on paper.

However, you're being encouraged to submit the online claim form because electronic submissions will be processed quickly.
Whether you submit a claim online or through the mail, you need to provide your contact details, provincial health card number, and preferred payment method.
Also, you must certify that you spent time or money responding to the LifeLabs data breach.
How much money can I get from the class action lawsuit?
Each class member who completes a claim form during the claim period will be eligible to receive $50, up to a maximum of $150 from the LifeLabs class action lawsuit.
It's possible that you could receive more or less than $50 depending on the number of claims filed, the legal fees and the disbursements that have been approved by the court.
What is the deadline to submit a claim?
You need to submit a completed and signed claim form within the 120-day claim period if you want to receive money.
That means the deadline to submit a claim is April 6, 2024, at 5 a.m. PT if you're submitting online.
If you're mailing the claim form, it must be postmarked no later than April 6, 2024.
When will I get money from the LifeLabs class action?
Payments from the LifeLabs class action lawsuit settlement will only be given out after the end of the claim period.
Once you submit your completed claim form, no further action is required from you until it's time for payments to be made.
