I Spent Over $100 At Costco Without Meaning To & These Are 9 Products I Couldn't Resist Buying

I went shopping at a Costco warehouse in Canada and spent over $100 without meaning to because there were some products I couldn't resist grabbing off the shelves.

Even though the wholesale retailer is known for cheap prices, the cost of these items quickly added up!

It's no secret that I don't like shopping at Costco and I prefer going to the grocery store to do my weekly shop.

Despite that, there are still some products I'll go to the wholesaler to buy whether it be because they're not available at my local grocery store or because the price is cheaper.

That includes some grocery items, pantry staples, and household essentials.

Plus, a few Kirkland Signature items are too good to pass up as well!

On this shopping trip to the wholesale retailer, I only meant to get two things — a pack of lint rollers and a bottle of olive oil — because I needed those items.

But, as you might know if you're a regular Costco shopper, you almost always pick up extra items on a whim.

So, here are nine Costco products that I couldn't resist adding to my shopping cart and ended up costing me more than $100.

Potatoes

Even though I don't like shopping for fresh food products — like meat, fruit and vegetables — the price of these potatoes was too good to pass up especially since it's the holiday season now and potatoes are a Christmas dinner essential.

It costs $7.49 for a 10-pound bag of potatoes at Costco. That works out to just $0.74 per pound!

Kirkland Signature cookies

One of the best parts about shopping at Costco, as someone who doesn't even like going there, is all the delicious treats in the bakery section.

Since it costs $9.99 for a pack of Kirkland Signature cookies that includes white chocolate macadamia nut, double chocolate chunk, and chocolate chip, it was a must-have for me.

Lint rollers

Lint rollers are an essential household item for me whether it be for getting dog hair off my clothes or cleaning fluffs off the couch and so on.

So, when I found the shelf with Scotch-Brite lint rollers that come in five packs for $15.99 while shopping at Costco, I immediately grabbed a pack.

For some reason, my local grocery store never has these in stock so the lint rollers are a must-have from Costco when I shop there.

Coffee

It costs $16.49 for a one-kilogram bag of Lavazza Crema e Armona coffee at Costco.

I usually buy the Kirkland Signature House Blend coffee when shopping at Costco since it's actually roasted by Starbucks but it was more expensive than this brand.

So, I added this bag of Lavazza coffee to my shopping cart instead.

Nutella

Growing up Italian, Nutella was a breakfast staple and a sweet treat that was enjoyed no matter the time of day.

Now, it's a go-to item whenever I shop at Costco since it costs $15.99 for a two-pack of one-kilogram jars of Nutella and I normally can't find two packs — or even a single one-kilogram jar — while shopping at the grocery store.

Kirkland Signature Muffins

Before going to Costco for the first time in years earlier in 2023, the last time I shopped at the wholesale retailer was when I was a kid.

My aunt had a membership back then so my mom, my sisters and I would sometimes go with her and we always got the double chocolate chip muffins from the Costco bakery.

I already had the cookies in my cart but I couldn't resist putting two packs of these muffins in as well when I walked past the stack of sweet treats.

If you're thinking I'm being gluttonous by getting two packs, you actually have to get two packs of muffins.

You can mix and match flavours though — I usually go for double chocolate chunk, chocolate chip or blueberry!

It costs $9.99 for two packs of Costco's Kirkland Signature muffins.

Q-tips

If you're anything like me, you only realize you need another box of cotton swabs when you reach into the box and find it empty.

Costco has a three-pack of Q-tips for $12.99, which breaks down to $4.33 per pack, and each pack has 625 cotton swabs.

That's cheaper than buying single packs or multi-packs at other stores like Walmart.

Olive oil

It costs $15.99 for this one-litre bottle of Barbera extra virgin olive oil at Costco.

Even though the two-litre bottle of Kirkland Signature extra virgin olive oil was only about $12 per litre, I decided to splurge on this more expensive one because the Kirkland bottles were dented and dusty.

Lip balm

This pack of Burt's Bees lip balms seemed a little bit pricey at first glance.

But when you break it down, you get eight chapsticks for $21.99 which is $2.74 each.

That's cheaper than buying individual Burt's Bees lip balms at stores like Walmart or Shoppers Drug Mart.

Total

Even though I only bought nine products at Costco, it came out to more than $100 because the prices for the items I couldn't resist putting in my shopping cart added up quickly.

The total was $126.91 before tax and $143.40 after tax.

While I didn't expect the total to be this price, I have to admit that if I had bought all of these products at a grocery store in Canada, it most likely would've cost even more money.

These prices are confirmed at the time of publishing, but they can change at any time. Taxes and fees may not be included.
