If you've wondered why the McFlurry machines at McDonald's around the country are always broken, you're not the only one — apparently, even the feds would like to know.
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) contacted several McDonald's franchises earlier this summer to find out why their ice cream machines never seem to be operating.

The WSJ reports that it has seen a letter from the federal agency that proves the FTC is interested in how often restaurant owners can fix the complicated ice cream machines themselves with third-party equipment.
"The existence of a preliminary investigation does not indicate the FTC or its staff have found any wrongdoing," the letter reads, according to the WSJ.
In a statement to USA Today, McDonald's said it had "no reason" to believe it is the focus of an FTC investigation. The fast-food company didn't immediately respond to Narcity's request for comment.
